George Packer, award winning author and staff writer at The Atlantic, joins The Newark Public Library’s Philip Roth Lecture for an evening exploring the intersections of literature, politics, and free expression.

George Packer is the author of The Unwinding: An Inner History of the New America, a National Book Award winner, and The Assassins’ Gate: America in Iraq. His biography Our Man: Richard Holbrooke and the End of the American Century received both the Hitchens Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His most recent work, The Emergency: A Novel, continues his examination of American life through fiction. In addition to these acclaimed titles, Packer has written two other novels, a play, and edited a two volume collection of George Orwell’s essays.
