The Philip Roth Personal Library consists of two spaces, a gallery space and a reading room. The Philip Roth Inaugural Exhibition is on view during Regular Library Hours. An accompanying audio tour is available.

NJ Transit trains (Montclair-Boonton or Morris and Essex lines) run from NY Penn Station to Broad Street Station in Newark.

PATH trains, Amtrak, and other NJ Transit lines run to Newark Penn Station where a connection can be made on the Newark Light Rail (Broad Street Line).

Charles F. Cummings NJ Information Center (CFCNJIC)

The CFCNJIC (New Jersey Room) is a research-level collection of materials relating to New Jersey, Essex County and Newark. It includes both historical and current information in these formats: books, newspapers, documents, pictures and archives.

James Brown African American Room (JBAAR)

James Brown dedicated his professional life to curating and expanding the Library’s collection of resources on the African American experience. The JBAAR has a collection that is principally for browsing and provides cross-disciplinary access to materials about African American life, history, and culture.

New Jersey Hispanic Research and Information Center (NJHRIC)

The NJHRIC addresses the informational needs of the state’s diverse Hispanic communities, from the newly arrived monolingual immigrant to the English dominant scholarly researcher. It consists of three components: the Sala Hispanoamericana, the Hispanic Reference Collection, and the Puerto Rican Community Archives.

Special Collections

The purpose of the Special Collections Division is to enhance the study of the visual arts, particularly the graphic arts. The Special Collections Division is one of the foremost collections of graphic art in New Jersey.
